The evolving story of the glory of a corporate girl
I remember the scene so vividly.
Reub, PT and I are seated at the table as the ADSK exam scripts are given back to us. My heart is pounding with a curious mix of excitement, fear, denial and delirium.
PT is the first to get his paper. He smiles to himself and rolls up the script in his hand. Next comes Reub. I cannot tell the expression on his face but at least he is not cringing. And then my turn. I am so nervous I can't seem to read my score written in red on the top right hand corner.
Before I can ask Reuben to help me, the person distributing the papers announces that PT is the top performer with 99% and Reuben with 93%. Just as suddenly my brain captures the figures on my paper, and it hits me that I, the global let-down of GCUS, have failed the exam by ONE mark. ONE bloody mark. I am left speechless and decide that maybe I shouldn't care so much.
And then I woke up.
As I recounted my dream to my fellow trainees over IB the next day, I found out that PT had a nightmare about the ADSK exams too. I was slightly amused but more disturbed that one stupid exam can traumatize us so much.
But we finally made it!
After 3 months of training, studying, exams, hotdesking, office taiji with JK and our fairy godmother DD who literally fought tooth and nail with JK to make sure we got what we deserved, the Movers & Shakers squawk came on Friday afternoon while I was on call and yes, all four of us - PT, Tyldie, Reub and I have officially graduated from GCUS and are moving to Analytics come Tuesday.
The only word I can think of now is RELIEF. Well, make it three- IMMENSE GLORIOUS RELIEF.
Tyldie and I went out to celebrate after work and we had Japanese food for dinner followed for "The Devil wears Prada". We are now inspired to throw out our current wardrobe and revamp ourselves as the fashion icons of Bloomberg, haha! We walked down Orchard Road with our arms interlinked because she was in her limited edition snakeskin Nike track shoes that had no grip.
You should have seen us. Two crazy happy girls walkin' in the rain.
I heart Tyldie. It's funny how I didn't quite like her when she first joined the company, but she turned out to be such an awesome human being and we have somewhat become best friends in the office and spend sooo much time together, trading stories, sharing laughs and spurring each other on.
Jack is back in Australia for a week and I miss him.
It didn't register how important I had become to him until we went for dinner after work and he took my bag and waited for me outside the mall while I went shoe shopping, even after I told him to go home first. Or when he calls me from the airport right before he boards the plane just to say bye, even though we just saw each other at the office that day. These are small gestures, but coming from someone like him, it means a lot to me.
I wish he was there when the squawk came and we could do the whole scream-and-flail-our-arms thing. My consolation is that my favourite Jeff is flying in next week for a Sales training, so I get to have him in the office with me for 4 whole days and we've arranged to go for a movie together after work, which shall be the highlight of my week.
ADSK, here I come!
