Creatures of the night

Despite having only 3 hours of sleep, I stumbled out of bed at half-past 6 for the Saturday shift and somehow survived 8 hours of work in the office.

Determined not to waste a good weekend evening, I met up with Ahred and his Japanese friends Emi and Eriko in town for dinner at Din Tai Fung (purportedly "voted by the New York Times as the one of the top ten restarants in the world" although I disagree) and dessert at Bakerzin. And then we shopped for a bit before bringing the girls on their first MRT ride to Ang Mo Kio before hopping on a cab to the Night Safari.

Night Safari is in one word ULU. My rationale is that all these wild life animals have to be kept far faaar away from civilisation in case they escape, but did they really have to locate it in the middle of nowhere?

Nonetheless, it was a tanoshii way of spending a weekend night.

We were treated to a Bornean tribal performance at the entrance, although it was mostly just well-oiled hunky dory men yelling in strange tongues and playing with fire.

Next was the Creatures of the Night Show which enthralled the crowd with a entourage of binturongs, otters, raccoons, owls, wolves, hyenas and servals and came with a strong conservation message.

Finally we took a guided 45-minute tram ride which took us through 3 continents and 8 different landscapes and saw us plenty of animals. Flash photography was not allowed for obvious reasons, but the idiots behind us kept snapping away and the guide had to stop the tram to warn them to stop endangering themselves and the rest of the visitors.

I have also decided that since I love bring people around so much, my next career choice will be a tour guide, woohoo!
