Reality bites

Hong Kong was an amazing experience beyond words, and the truth is that I haven't adjusted to being back in Singapore yet.

I can't believe it has been more than a week since my return.

I close my eyes and transport myself back to Hong Kong. Hanging out with Jeff, Toby and Jason who always made time for us despite their busy schedules and went out of their way so we could have the most authentic experiences. Journeying on the bus along the winding roads and strange towering boxed apartments, surrounded by mountains and overlooking the sea. Plugged into my MP3 player with Rockapella on repeat. Walking the streets with Joe armed with just a tourist map and speaking in Mandarin because our Cantonese cannot make it. The cold winter air beating against my face, the torrential rain casting an unearthly evening glow when it's supposed to mid-afternoon.

With my luxury of a two-week break, I do not have work to anchor me to reality and I fill my days with programmes and people to distract me. I managed to mess up my body clock by sleeping at dawn and waking up past noon.

So I have entertained friends from Tokyo, finished a 500-page novel and immediately bought more books, had my Starbucks, shopped for Christmas presents, met up with old friends, watched a movie, gone clubbing (again) with Ahred and K to celebrate their exams ending and spent too much time online doing nothing much.

Still missing the gym, a manicure, learning Spanish and packing my room. My bad.

Two weeks off work is one week too long and I am looking forward to being back at my work desk at 7 am come Monday. So I am weird.
