Melaka Bagus!

The last time I was in Kuala Lumpur with E, we both came down with a bad case of food poisoning (imagine the two of us taking turns to bend over the toilet bowl to empty our guts and being cooped up in a room with no windows for over 24 hours), were bored out of our minds (we watched 3 movies in 4 days and spent a lot of time reading in Borders), argued with hooligan taxi drivers who refused to use the meter and quoted us crazy prices, were bitten senseless by bedbugs, got directed to the wrong airport terminal for our flight, were driven by an illegal cabbie who took us on a deserted road as a shortcut to the right terminal and encountered a lightning storm on our flight home.

E wanted so much for me to have a good time and fall in love with KL, but it was a nightmare right from the start.

Needless to say, I wasn't impressed at all.

Still, because I really needed to get away from the city and have been itching to take photos, I decided to go on a road trip with Darren and his cousins to Malacca.

Daz and I at one of our dozen food stops

Malacca was awesome!

It was quaint, laidback and full of interesting sights, sounds and smells. There were a lot of photo opportunities and we even bumped into a group of photography enthusiasts at a pub on Jonker Street, all with their fancy Canon 1Ds, tripods and paparazzi flashes.

I thought of how we used to traipse around strange places with our heavy cameras hanging off our necks, switching lens between the two of us... it felt weird to be doing that without you.

We made about half a dozen food stops and ate ourselves stupid. I don't think I've ever eaten so much within such a short span of time in my life, but everything was so enticing!

You can see all the photos from our road trip here.

But for now, Monday beckons and it's back to the grind tomorrow.
