T goes country
You know you're in the country when...
The train doors are not automatic and you have to push them open (and close)
The station doesn't have a Suica reader
The water from the tap is milky white
You are surrounded by rice fields and they're beautifully blanketed in snow
The trains arrive in intervals of an hour
You receive a random death threat from a crazed old Japanese man on the train
No one as much as flinch when the train stops in the middle of nowhere for 15 minutes
Going into Tokyo is a "holiday"
You can count on one hand the number of
gaijins you see and people stare at you because you are actually with one
"Yes", "No" and "Thank you" is all the English you'd get
The
onsen is a 10 minutes drive away and just 500 yen to enter
You head back after dinner to watch trashy Japanese TV over canned beer
No one is in a hurry.
It's nice being out here, although it's so very cold. But you can't take the city out of me, and I can't wait to get back to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
