Hakone

I had never seen skies so blue.

Yesterday was an exceptionally beautiful day, and we embarked on a day trip to Hakone just to escape the city and go on a photo-taking trip.

He, ever the professional, brought three cameras (including a Holga for me to experiment with!) and I took my point-and-shoot along.

We started from Shinjuku at close to 9, taking a 2-hour express train all the way to Hakone-Yumoto and then transferring to the Hakone Tozan bus to Motohakone-ko.

After a simple lunch at a noodle place near the jetty, we took a walk along the famed Lake Ashi. It was really cold because of the sea breeze, but seeing the majestic Mount Fuji before our eyes was worth it and we must have been there for close to 2 hours taking plenty of photos.

We then took a pirate cruise ship from the pier across the lake to Togendai.

Next, we switched to the Hakone Ropeway going uphill to Souzan. We stopped en route at Owakudani to take more photos... and I didn't realize how huge Mount Fuji was before our eyes until I uploaded this-

We then changed at Souzan to the Hakone Cablecar, terminating at Gora.

Despite his disdain for shopping, he indulged me with a trip to the outlet mall in Gotemba. We had to transfer to the Odakyu Highway bus, enduring a 45-minute drive through the windy mountain roads but I needed my shopping fix.

We had dinner at a restaurant there before catching the shuttle back to Gotemba. To cut down travel time, we took the local train back to Shin-Matsuda instead and hopped on the Odakyu back to Shinjuku.

It was half-past 10 when we got back to my apartment, but the day flew by so fast and I'm glad we got to spend some quality time together. :)

You can see all the photos I took here.
